Wonder of wonders…..
A buddy just called and said he'll buy my Sig P226R, along with the extra mags I have, and a few boxes of ammo, for more than enough to pay for the M1!
WHOO-HOO!
This will make my wife ecstatic, as I told her I wouldn't buy the M1 until I'd saved enough out of my lunch money (or sold a bunch of stuff) to pay for it.

I cannot say enough about the customer service at CMP. I love my Garand.

When visiting the armory I would advise leaving your wallet at home.
Wait, scratch that thought……..

CMP also sells ammo, but .308 is inherently slightly more accurate than 30-06, and they sell .308 too…

I've wanted an M1 “since forever”, but was kinda-sorta worried about 30-06 availability. Then I bought some M1 books, and found out they could be chambered in 308! This posed a dilemma….do I get a very nice rifle from the CMP, and pay some hefty $$ to get converted, or get something else, like a Savage bolt-action in 308?
I think this may be one of the (VERY few) times my procrastination had a benefit!

Way to go Drjim! It's *almost* enough for me to consider selling the .30-06 Garand I have too much up in the air right now…

WELL……this just pushed me over the edge.
I've been vacillating on whether to get a Garand from the CMP, or 'something else' in .308.
Time to finish the paperwork, and get out the checkbook!
