A twofer – George Rex, Imperator 1942 in .303 and R.F.I 1966, in 7.62 NATO – both out of the Rifle Factory, Ishapore. One has the British crown proofs, the other the Lion Capital of Emperor Asoka (c. 250 BCE)
Royal .303 Karma…

And 7.62 Dharma, baby!

Crikey, the older wood fits so much better, too….
It would be interesting to know what kind of jungle-wood was provided for the recent model, but the other looks almost like teak.
Just from the proof marks, it would appear that the fit and finish made a decided downturn between the ’40s and the ’60s. Wonder if it’s gotten back up to 1942 levels yet?
Mirror perfect bore though. But the British stuff is so slathered with proofmarks everywhere, a lot are mis-struck and nearly illegible…
Now yers?!?
Me likey.
Me jealous.
Birthday presents – sorta!
You can never have too many Enfields. And how come that 7.62mm job isn’t all slathered in nasty black paint like all the rest of them?
I was thinking the same thing. The parkerizing looks brand new.
Original paint was thickly applied by some gandu, heavily chipped and ugly from being carried and bashed around in 104-degree weather, so it got re-parked – now it’s ready for a coat of Lauer DuraCoat black or something from Brownells. First I gotta figure out how to take it apart!
